Disclosed are an optical module with an unlock warning function and a method of use thereof. A lever is provided on a base of the optical module, with an inclined groove formed. A handle for controlling the optical module to be inserted and unplugged matches the inclined groove to control a chamfer on the lever to rise or descend by controlling the movement of the handle relative to the base, and the chamfer is configured to match a slot of a metal shielding cage to fix and unlock the optical module, such that the optical module is controlled to be fixed and unlocked by controlling the handle. A contact point is arranged at a lower end of the chamfer, and when the chamfer descends, the contact point becomes electrically connected to a PCB in the optical module, whereby unlock warning is transmitted before the optical module is completely unplugged, preventing signal loss caused by its mistaken extraction.
