Abstract
The present disclosure relates to an optical fiber positioning device and, more particularly, to an optical fiber positioning device and a method for attaching a fiber optic array to a photonic integrated circuit (PIC). A structure includes: a body having a first end and a second end; at least one reflective surface provided on an upper surface of the body; a light source configured to emit light onto the at least one reflective surface; at least one sensor configured to sense the light reflected from the at least one reflective surface and convert the light into a signal; and a control system configured to receive the signal from the at least one sensor.

A structure comprising:
- a body comprising a first end and a second end;
- at least one reflective surface provided on an upper surface of the body;
- a light source configured to emit light onto the at least one reflective surface;
- at least one sensor configured to sense the light reflected from the at least one reflective surface and convert the light into a signal;
- and
- a control system configured to receive the signal from the at least one sensor.
A structure comprising:
- a body comprising a first end and a second end and composed of a transparent material;
- a first reflective surface at the first end of the body;
- a second reflective surface at the second end of the body;
- a first light sensor receiving light from the first reflective surface and converting the light to a first signal;
- a second light sensor receiving light from the second reflective surface and converting the light to a second signal;
- and
- a control system configured to receive the first signal and the second signal and provide active feedback to adjust a position of the body on a substrate.
A method comprising:
- emitting light onto a first reflective surface and a second reflective surface of a body;
- reflecting the light from the first reflective surface and the second reflective surface onto respective light sensors which convert the light into signals;
- and
- providing the signals to a control system which uses the signals to provide active feedback to a pick and place tool which adjusts placement of the body onto a substrate.
