Adapting operational parameters based on measurements confidence level

A system for adapting operation of a LIDAR system based on detected objects, comprising:

• at least one memory configured to store classification information for classifying a plurality of objects;
• at least one processor configured to:
• receive a plurality of measurements associated with detection results of a LIDAR system scanning a scene, each of the plurality of measurements is associated with at least one confidence level;
• access the at least one memory;
• classify a particular object based on the classification information, and the plurality of measurements and their associated confidence levels;
• and
• adapt at least one operational parameter of the LIDAR system according to at least one confidence level of at least one of the plurality of measurements.
