Abstract

Technologies for monitoring tire pressure of a vehicle includes a plurality of tire pressure sensors and a telematics gateway. Each tire sensor is configured to measure a pressure of a corresponding tire of the vehicle. The vehicle has plurality of tires grouped into tire sets at different locations on the vehicle. The telematics gateway is configured to a distance to each tire pressure sensor based on a received distance communication from the respective tire pressure sensor and determine a tire set of the plurality of tires to which each tire pressure sensor belongs based on the determined distance to the respective tire pressure sensor. The telematics gateway also determines a location of each tire pressure sensor within a set of tire pressure sensors based on received distances between tire pressure sensors located on lateral opposite sides of the vehicle.

Dependent claims

A telematics system for monitoring tire pressure of vehicle, the telematics system comprising:

a plurality of tire pressure sensors, wherein each tire pressure sensor is configured to measure a pressure of a corresponding tire of the vehicle, the vehicle having a plurality of tires grouped into tire pairs at different locations on the vehicle;
a telematics gateway configured to communicate with the plurality of tire pressure sensors to request a distance communication from each tire pressure sensor, determine a distance to each tire pressure sensor based on a received distance communication from the respective tire pressure sensor, and determine a tire pair of the plurality of tires to which each tire pressure sensor belongs based on the determined distance to the respective tire pressure sensor.

A method for monitoring tire pressure of vehicle having a plurality of tires grouped into tire pairs at different locations on the vehicle, the method comprising:

communicating, from a telematics gateway to each tire pressure sensor of a plurality of tire pressure sensors, to request a distance communication form each tire pressure sensor;
determining, by the telematics gateway, a distance to each tire pressure sensor based on the received distance communication from the respective tire pressure sensor;
and
determining, by the telematics gateway, a tire pair of the plurality of tires to which each tire pressure sensor belongs based on the determined distance to the respective tire pressure sensor.
