Estimating Loudspeaker Elevation

A system comprising:

• one or more non-transitory computer readable storage media storing instructions, and one or more processors coupled to the one or more non-transitory computer readable storage media and operable to execute the instructions to:
• instruct each of a plurality of discrete loudspeakers to emit an excitation stimulus;
• instruct each of a plurality of microphones to measure a response at that microphone due to the emitted excitation stimuli, wherein:
• each of the discrete loudspeakers is co-located with at least one microphone in the set of microphones;
• and
• the plurality of microphones includes at least two microphones separated by a predetermined distance;
• determine, by deconvolving the microphone measurements, a set of loudspeaker room impulse responses;
• determine, from the set of loudspeaker room impulse responses, a distance between each discrete loudspeaker and each microphone;
• and
• estimate, based on the determined distances, an elevation angle of each of the plurality of discrete loudspeakers.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions that are operable when executed by one or more processors to:

• instruct each of a plurality of discrete loudspeakers to emit an excitation stimulus;
• instruct each of a plurality of microphones to measure a response at that microphone due to the emitted excitation stimuli, wherein:
• each of the discrete loudspeakers is co-located with at least one microphone in the set of microphones;
• and
• the plurality of microphones includes at least two microphones separated by a predetermined distance;
• determine, by deconvolving the microphone measurements, a set of loudspeaker room impulse responses;
• determine, from the set of loudspeaker room impulse responses, a distance between each discrete loudspeaker and each microphone;
• and
• estimate, based on the determined distances, an elevation angle of each of the plurality of discrete loudspeakers.
