High-accuracy sensor with heterogeneous architecture

A sensor, comprising:

• a first signal path having a first gain, the first signal path including a plurality of magnetoresistance (MR) elements, the first signal path being configured to generate a first signal based, at least in part, on an output of the MR elements;
• a second signal path having a second gain, the second signal path including one or more Hall elements, the second signal path being configured to generate a second signal based, at least in part, on an output of the Hall elements;
• a first feedback coil and a second feedback coil that are configured to balance the first gain with the second gain, the first feedback coil being arranged to influence the plurality of MR elements, and the second feedback coil being arranged to influence the Hall elements;
• a variable resistor that is configured to at least in part adjust an electrical current used to drive at least one of the first feedback coil and the second feedback coil;
• and
• combination circuitry that is configured to generate an output signal by combining the first signal with the second signal.

A sensor, comprising:

• a first signal path having a first gain, the first signal path including a plurality of magnetoresistance (MR) elements, the first signal path being configured to generate a first signal based, at least in part, on an output of the MR elements;
• a second signal path having a second gain, the second signal path including one or more Hall elements, the second signal path being configured to generate a second signal based, at least in part, on an output of the Hall elements;
• a first feedback coil and a second feedback coil that are configured to balance the first gain with the second gain, the first feedback coil being arranged to influence the plurality of MR elements, and the second feedback coil being arranged to influence the Hall elements, a variable current source being configured to drive a given one of the first feedback coil and the second feedback coil;
• and
• a controller configured to set a level of an electrical current that is supplied by the variable current source to the given feedback coil in order to cause the first feedback coil and the second feedback coil to balance the first gain with the second gain.
