An intracellular monitoring device including plural multilayer nanofid apparatus that fit completely inside plural living cells, and cause no significant impairment, to the plural cells normal biological processes. The plural nanofid apparatus monitor plural cells for its level of a biological molecules (e.g., Ca+, etc.) of interest. If the biological molecules of interest reaches or exceeds a pre-determined threshold, the plural nanofid apparatus in the plural living cells transmits an electromagnetic signal, received by an optical collection system. Each nanofid has its electromagnetic signal encoded with a unique frequency. Detection of the frequency components, in the signals received by the optical collection system with a signal processing method, permits identification of the source nanofid apparatus in plural individual living cells at the individual cell level.
