Systems and methods for automatically identifying analog materials based on estimated petrophysical properties of a selected sample material

A computer implemented method for automatically identifying analog materials of a subject porous media sample, the method comprising:

• (a) receiving a set of digitally estimated petrophysical properties of a plurality of reference porous media samples from a material library;
• (b) determining a similarity score between a subject porous media sample and each of the plurality of reference porous media samples by comparing a plurality of digitally estimated petrophysical properties of the subject porous media sample with the digitally estimated petrophysical properties of each of the plurality of reference porous media samples;
• (c) adjusting the similarity score based on an individual weighting of each of the digitally estimated petrophysical properties of the subject porous media sample and each of the plurality of reference porous media samples;
• and
• (d) identifying one or more of the plurality of reference porous media samples as an analog material of the subject porous media sample based on a ranking of each of the digitally estimated petrophysical properties of the plurality of reference porous media samples and the similarity score.

A system for automatically identifying analog materials of a subject porous media sample, the system comprising:

• a one or more processors;
• and
• a storage device coupled to the one or more processors, the storage device configured to store instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the one or more processors to:
• (a) receive a set of digitally estimated petrophysical properties of a plurality of reference porous media samples from a material library;
• (b) determine a similarity score between a subject porous media sample and each of the plurality of reference porous media samples by comparing a plurality of digitally estimated petrophysical properties of the subject porous media sample with the digitally estimated petrophysical properties of each of the plurality of reference porous media samples;
• and
• (c) identify one or more of the plurality of reference porous media samples as an analog material of the subject porous media sample in response to the similarity scores of the plurality of reference porous media samples meeting a predefined similarity score threshold.
