A light detection element includes a magnetic element having a first ferromagnetic layer, a second ferromagnetic layer, and a spacer layer sandwiched between the first and second ferromagnetic layers, and a main lens 21 and at least one sub-lens 22 that focus incident light to the magnetic element. The main lens and the sub-lens are metalenses 25 including a plurality of nanostructures 26. The planar size of the multiple nanostructures in the main lens decreases as the distance from the optical center of the main lens increases in each region determined according to the distance from the optical center of the main lens, and the planar size of the multiple nanostructures in the sub-lens decreases as the distance from the optical center of the sub-lens increases in each region determined according to the distance from the optical center of the sub-lens.
