Abstract
Aspects of the present invention relate to a control system comprising one or more controllers, the control system comprising input means to receive a temperature signal indicative of a temperature of a transmission associated with a traction electric machine of a vehicle, output means to output a control signal for causing a fluidic communication of thermal energy from a heat source to a transmission heat exchanger for heating the transmission, and processing means arranged to control the output means to output the control signal in dependence on the temperature signal.

A thermal management system for a vehicle, the thermal management system comprising:
- a first fluidic coolant circuit comprising:
- a first branch in fluid communication with a traction battery for the vehicle;
- a second branch in fluid communication with a transmission associated with a traction electric machine for the vehicle;
- a valve having a first inlet port in fluid communication with the first branch, a second inlet port in fluid communication with the second branch, and an outlet port, wherein the valve selectively joins the first branch and the second branch and allows egress through the outlet port;
- a second fluidic coolant circuit in fluid communication with a heat source;
- and
- a heat exchanger comprising a first side in fluid communication with the first fluidic coolant circuit and a second side in fluid communication with the second fluidic coolant circuit, wherein the heat exchanger is configured to exchange thermal energy between the first side and the second side.
A thermal management system for a vehicle, the thermal management system comprising:
- a first fluidic coolant circuit comprising:
- a first branch in fluid communication with a traction battery for the vehicle;
- a second branch in fluid communication with a transmission associated with a traction electric machine for the vehicle;
- a valve having a first inlet port in fluid communication with the first branch, a second inlet port in fluid communication with the second branch, and an outlet port, wherein the valve selectively joins the first branch and the second branch and allows egress through the outlet port;
- and
- a second fluidic coolant circuit in fluid communication with a heat source,
- wherein the valve comprises one or more selectively openable output ports in fluid communication with the transmission, and the valve is configured to selectively allow fluid from the one or more selectively openable output ports to exchange thermal energy with the transmission.
A thermal management system for a vehicle, the thermal management system comprising:
- a first fluidic coolant circuit comprising:
- a first branch in fluid communication with a traction battery for the vehicle;
- a second branch in fluid communication with a transmission associated with a traction electric machine for the vehicle;
- a valve having a first inlet port in fluid communication with the first branch, a second inlet port in fluid communication with the second branch, and an outlet port, wherein the valve selectively joins the first branch and the second branch and allows egress through the outlet port;
- and
- a second fluidic coolant circuit in fluid communication with a heat source.
