Foundation pile positioning system

Abstract

The current invention relates to a foundation pile positioning system for use in a foundation pile installation system for installing a pile into an underwater ground formation, preferably offshore, the foundation pile positioning system comprising;—an actuation system for rotating the foundation pile around a central longitudinal pile axis, wherein the actuation system comprises an engaging element for contacting an outer surface of the pile and rotating the pile around the central longitudinal pile axis by friction contact between the engaging element and the outer surface of the pile, wherein the engaging element comprises a rotary member for contacting the outer surface of the pile, wherein the rotary member is constrained in degrees of freedom of movement in order to rotate the pile around the central longitudinal pile axis and to allow rotation of the rotary member around a first axis such that relative movement of the engaging element and the foundation pile along the central longitudinal pile axis is enabled by rolling motion between the rotary member and the outer surface of the pile while the rotary member is contacting the outer surface of the pile.
