Use of a paper substrate, for a gas-barrier material in a laminated packaging material for packaging of oxygen sensitive food products, such as liquid, semi-liquid or viscous food products or water, wherein the paper substrate has a grammage from 30 to 100 g/m2, as measured according to ISO 536:2012, a density of at least 800 kg/m3, as measured according to ISO 534:2011, a strain at break in the machine direction in the range from above 3% to 9%, as measured according to ISO 1924-3:2005 and a Bendtsen surface roughness on at least one side from 5 to below 150 ml/min, as measured according to ISO 8791-2:2013, wherein the paper substrate is impregnated with a polymer or has a base coating comprising a polymer, applied onto a top side of the paper substrate.
