Abstract
Some of the aspects of the present disclosure relate to woven papermaking fabrics having a three dimensional surface topography comprising a plurality of protuberances. Some aspects relate to woven papermaking fabrics having a three dimensional surface topography comprising a plurality of protuberances oriented in a machine direction (MD) and plurality of protuberances oriented in a cross-machine direction (CD). Some aspects relate to woven papermaking fabrics having a three dimensional surface topography comprising a plurality of recesses formed by MDoriented and CD-oriented protuberances.
Claims20
A woven papermaking fabric having a three-dimensional structure, a machine direction axis, and a cross-machine direction axis, wherein the woven papermaking fabric comprises a plurality of machine direction (MD)-oriented warp filaments and a plurality of cross-machine direction (CD)-oriented shute filaments Interwoven together to provide a machine contacting fabric side and opposed web contacting fabric side, and wherein
- the web contacting fabric side comprises:
- a plurality of MD-oriented protuberances formed from two or more warp filaments woven to form a first float above corresponding one or more shute filaments, such that the two or more warp filaments in each of the plurality of MD-oriented protuberances are spaced apart, wherein each of the plurality of MD-oriented protuberances has a first end and a second end;
- and
- a plurality of CD-oriented protuberances formed by at least one shute filament, wherein each of the plurality of CD-oriented protuberances are defined by a second float and wherein each of the plurality of CD-oriented protuberances has a first end and a second end;
- wherein the plurality of CD-oriented protuberances and the plurality of MD-oriented protuberances are arranged to form a plurality of recesses,
- each recess having:
- two opposite edges in an MD direction formed by portions adjacent and including the ends of two adjacent CD-oriented protuberances and two opposite edges in a CD-direction formed by at least a portion of the two adjacent MD-protuberances, and
- a floor defining a bottom plane,
- wherein each recess has a depth of 0.4 mm or greater as measured between the web contacting fabric side and the floor, and
- wherein an outermost top surface of the web contacting fabric side is substantially flat.
