Coating composition and paint-protective coating material

Abstract

Provided is a coating composition that is less susceptible to running and is capable of forming a high-quality paint-protective coating material. The coating composition provided comprises a polymer (A) as a base polymer. The polymer (A) is a polymer of a monomer material comprising an acrylic monomer, and has the form of an aqueous emulsion in which the polymer (A) is dispersed in an aqueous solvent. The coating composition further comprises a polyvinyl alcohol polymer (B) having a saponification degree of 80 mol % or higher and a polymerization degree of 1200 or lower. The amount of the polyvinyl alcohol polymer (B) is 0.3 part by weight or greater and 5.0 parts by weight or less per 100 parts by weight of the polymer (A). The coating composition has a viscosity of 25 Pa·s or higher, determined at 30° C. and 2 rpm using a BH viscometer.
