Abstract
The invention relates to a thermoplastic molding composition comprising at least one vinylaromatic (co)polymer and at least one filler comprising spent coffee grounds. The molding composition according to the invention is characterized by having a reduced coefficient of friction while its surface energy is only moderately changed. The invention also relates to a process for reducing the coefficient of friction of a thermoplastic molding composition by adding spent coffee grounds. Moreover, the invention relates to the use of spent coffee grounds as friction modifier for thermoplastic polymer compositions.

1-15. (canceled)
A thermoplastic molding composition P comprising:
- A:
- 80 to 99.9 wt.-%, based on the thermoplastic molding composition P, of at least one vinylaromatic (co)polymer composition as component A;
- B:
- 0.1 to 20 wt.-%, based on the thermoplastic molding composition P, of at least one filler comprising spent coffee grounds as component B, wherein component B comprises at least 80 wt.-%, based on the total weight of component B, of spent coffee grounds and up to 20 wt.-%, based on the total weight of component B, of residual moisture;
- and
- C:
- 0 to 10 wt.-%, based on the thermoplastic molding composition P, of at least one further additive as component C, wherein the at least one further additive of component C is different from component B;
- wherein components A, B, and C sum up to 100 wt.-% of the thermoplastic molding composition P,
- wherein the at least one vinylaromatic (co)polymer component A comprises:
- A1:
- at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic polymer and/or at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic copolymer selected from homopolymers of vinylaromatic monomers, copolymers of vinylaromatic monomers with acrylonitrile and/or acrylate monomers, and mixtures thereof;
- and
- A2:
- optionally at least one impact modifying polymer and/or at least one impact modifying copolymer.
A method for reducing the coefficient of friction of a thermoplastic vinylaromatic (co)polymer composition wherein the method includes the step of compounding the at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic (co)polymer composition with spent coffee grounds, wherein the at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic (co)polymer composition comprises:
- A1:
- at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic polymer and/or at least one thermoplastic vinylaromatic copolymer selected from homopolymers of vinylaromatic monomers, copolymers of vinylaromatic monomers with acrylonitrile and/or acrylate monomers, and mixtures thereof;
- and
- A2:
- at least one impact modifying polymer and/or at least one impact modifying copolymer comprising at least repeating units of monomers selected from diene monomers, acrylate monomers and mixtures thereof and optionally repeating units of vinyl aromatic monomers.
A method of using spent coffee grounds as a friction modifier for thermoplastic vinylaromatic (co)polymer compositions.
