Depolymerization of cross-linked polyethylene

Abstract

A method for producing a cracker feedstock by depolymerizing plastic waste material made from or containing cross-linked polyethylene. A method for producing a cracker feedstock by depolymerizing a polymeric waste material comprising crosslinked polyethylene (PEX), comprising the steps of: (i) introducing the waste material into a pyrolysis reactor; (ii) mixing the waste material with a depolymerization catalyst comprising an acidic compound; (iii) depolymerizing the waste material in an oxygen-free atmosphere at a temperature ranging from 400 to 590° C., thereby obtaining a gaseous depolymerization product; and (iv) collecting and condensing at least part of the gaseous depolymerization product, thereby obtaining the cracker feedstock.
