Brake system

Abstract

A brake system for a traveling body of an elevator has a brake and an emergency cylinder. The brake includes a first brake pad, a spring and a hydraulic element. The spring provides a clamping force that is transmitted to the first brake pad. The hydraulic element provides a brake release force. The emergency cylinder is hydraulically connected to the hydraulic element by a hydraulic line and is actuated using muscle power to release the brake. The emergency cylinder, the hydraulic line and the hydraulic element can be separated by a separating valve. An operating method includes the steps of: separating the emergency cylinder, the hydraulic element and the connecting hydraulic line by closing the separating valve; releasing the brake by actuating the emergency cylinder using muscle power; and braking the traveling body with the brake by ending the actuation of the emergency cylinder.
