Reinforced bulk bag and method of construction

Abstract

A bag for carrying a load of solid particulate materials and a method of constructing the same. The bag includes a first member produced from a flexible sheet material, such as a woven fabric, and is generally circular in cross-section. The first member is transformed into a second member which is generally square in cross-section. The first member is woven as a tube defining a bore therethrough. In order to transform the first member to the second member, four longitudinally-extending reinforced regions are woven into the fabric of the tube. A longitudinally-extending fold is formed in each reinforced region to create a pleat. A lift belt is secured along each pleat so that a loop of the lift belt extends beyond a first end of the tube. A second end of the tube is closed off to transform the bore therein into the cavity for receiving the load.
