Abstract
Product packaging for a consumer product such as a cosmetic is formed of a sheet of material that is provided to a packager in a flat form that can be folded into a sealed packaging container, shipped to an end user, and opened by the end user by removing a frangible pull tab or other frangible structure or the like that separates the package along a seam to permit the package to unfold into a lay-flat sheet with information for the end user displayed on an interior surface.
Claims20
A device comprising:
- a sheet of packaging material foldable into a package for a product;
- a plurality of creases orthogonally arranged on the sheet to define a plurality of edges of the package formed by folding the sheet, wherein the plurality of edges further define a plurality of panels of the package when the sheet is folded into the package for use;
- a plurality of flaps on a perimeter of the sheet, each of the plurality of flaps coupled along one of the plurality of edges to one of the plurality of panels of the package, and each of the plurality of flaps extending into an interior of the package when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a release panel formed by one of the plurality of panels extending from one of the plurality of creases and overlapping an opposing one of the plurality of flaps on an opposing region of the perimeter of the sheet when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a self-adhesive portion on at least one of the release panel or the opposing one of the plurality of flaps, the self-adhesive portion for adhering the release panel to the one of the plurality of flaps to form a lay-flat pre-assembly for the package;
- and
- a frangible pull tab formed by a pair of frangible edges extending laterally across the release panel parallel to the one of the plurality of creases, the frangible pull tab being removable from the sheet to facilitate an unfolding of the sheet, when folded into the package, into a flat surface.

A packaging blank comprising:
- a sheet of packaging material foldable to form a package;
- a plurality of creases in the sheet that define a plurality of panels of the package when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a plurality of flaps along a perimeter of the sheet, the plurality of flaps configured to extend into an interior of the package when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a release panel formed by one of the plurality of panels and positioned to overlap one of the plurality of flaps when the sheet is folded into the package;
- an adhesive securing the release panel to the one of the plurality of flaps to form a lay-flat pre-assembly;
- and
- a frangible region on the release panel between a fold crease and the adhesive, the frangible region separable to decouple the release panel from the one of the plurality of flaps and permit the package to be opened and unfolded toward a flat configuration.

A packaging blank comprising:
- a sheet of packaging material foldable to form a package for a product;
- a plurality of creases in the sheet that define panels of the package when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a plurality of flaps along a perimeter of the sheet, the plurality of flaps shaped and sized to extend into an interior of the package when the sheet is folded to retain a three-dimensional shape of the package;
- a release panel formed by one of the panels and positioned to overlap one of the plurality of flaps when the sheet is folded into the package;
- a self-adhesive portion positioned to adhere the release panel to the one of the plurality of flaps to form a lay-flat pre-assembly;
- and
- a frangible region on the release panel between a fold crease and the self-adhesive portion, the frangible region separable to separate the release panel from the one of the plurality of flaps and permit the package, after assembly from the packaging blank into the package, to be opened and unfolded toward a flat configuration.
