Presented here are embodiments of an innovative aircraft tug attachment and detachment system. Embodiments may include a vertically translatable platform, an azimuth-rotatable cradle, and one or more rotatable latch arms. The cradle's lateral opening aligns with the platform's opening to create an entry path for the aircraft's nose landing gear (NLG). Once the NLG is positioned within the cradle, the cradle may be rotated, and the platform may be lifted off the ground to support the NLG. The rotatable latch arm may then be actuated to secure the NLG. Embodiments provide several advantages, including but not limited to, reducing the number of moving parts, making the system more reliable and easier to maintain, making it easier and faster to use, and minimizing wear on the aircraft's steering system by maintaining a fixed steering position during towing.
An aircraft tug attachment assembly, comprising:
An aircraft tug, comprising:
A method for attaching one or more wheels of nose landing gear of an aircraft to an attachment assembly of an aircraft tug, the attachment assembly including (i) a platform body defining a lateral platform opening and (ii) a cradle rotatably coupled to the platform body and defining a lateral opening and a capture zone, the method comprising:
