A watercraft configured for hydrofoil operation includes a flotation structure and one or more hydrofoil struts that transition between deployed and stowed configurations along arcuate paths about radial axes positioned outside the flotation structure. The arcuate retraction geometry enables the struts to sweep longitudinally within the hull envelope, providing compact stowed profiles without deep vertical hull cavities or lateral protrusion, while the continuous curved strut geometry provides a structurally rigid load path that inherently resists bending forces during foiling. Pitch-axis pivot joints at the strut distal ends decouple foil orientation from strut angle, permitting the hydrofoil lift surfaces to maintain a substantially horizontal orientation during partial retraction for shallow-water foiling. Forward-facing and downward-facing underwater sensors enable automatic hazard-responsive retraction. A control system autonomously maintains ride height. The watercraft may further be configured for unmanned autonomous operation with GPS waypoint-following navigation and a payload mounting interface.
