Abstract

A smart shopping cart includes a pair of front wheels and a pair of forward-positioned rear wheels. The front wheels are swivel wheels and the rear wheels are fixed wheels. The rear wheels are forward positioned in that the rear wheels are positioned substantially in front of the handlebars of the smart shopping cart. For example, whereas the rear wheels of traditional shopping carts are generally close to or to the rear of the handlebars of the shopping cart, the rear wheels of the described smart shopping cart are substantially in front of the handlebars. By moving the rear wheels closer to the center of mass of the smart shopping cart, the smart shopping cart becomes easier to turn relative to traditional shopping carts.
