Abstract

A component for a vehicle interior comprising a composite structure is disclosed. The composite structure comprises a base layer and cover layer; the cover layer comprises an exterior surface; the cover provides a surface effect for the exterior surface comprising a visual effect and/or performance effect; the visual effect comprises a decorative effect such as texture, grain, wood, metallic, etc.; the cover comprises an applied/deposited material such as a coating, paint, ink, film, etc. The base layer may comprise wood material/veneer. A light source may be configured to provide illumination for the cover; the cover may comprise light-transmissive material. The cover may comprise a feature such as a line, strip, inlay, layer, etc. as a decorative feature; the feature may comprise a layer of material at the cover layer and/or within the cover; the feature may be illuminated by the light source. A method of producing the component is disclosed.
