Output phase current reduction system for electric vehicle

An output phase current reduction system for an electric vehicle, the electric vehicle including an accelerator pedal, a battery pack, a plurality of wheels, and an electric motor that is configured to drive at least one of the wheels with electric power from the battery pack, the output phase current reduction system comprising:

• a position sensor configured to output data that is indicative of a position of the accelerator pedal within a range from a released position to a maximum position;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• be in electrical communication with the position sensor, the electric motor, and the battery pack;
• operate the electric motor in a normal mode in which the controller causes a normal value of a phase current to be output to the electric motor, the normal value is proportional to the position of the accelerator pedal;
• and
• terminate the normal mode and operate the electric motor in a phase current reduction mode if:
• a rotational speed of the electric motor is less than a speed threshold;
• and
• the phase current is greater than a current threshold, wherein
• the controller gradually decreases the phase current output to the electric motor from the normal value to a value less than the normal value when the controller operates the electric motor in the phase current reduction mode.

An output phase current reduction system for an electric vehicle, the electric vehicle including an accelerator pedal, a battery pack, a plurality of wheels, and an electric motor that is configured to drive at least one of the wheels with electric power from the battery pack, the output phase current reduction system comprising:

• a position sensor configured to output data that is indicative of a position of the accelerator pedal within a range from a released position to a maximum position;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• be in electrical communication with the position sensor, the electric motor, and the battery pack;
• if one of a forward drive direction and a reverse drive direction is selected, operate the electric motor in one of:
• a normal mode in which the controller causes a normal value of a phase current to be output to the electric motor, the normal value is proportional to the position of the accelerator pedal;
• and
• a phase current reduction mode in which the controller gradually decreases the phase current output to the electric motor from the normal value to a value less than the normal value;
• and
• terminate the normal mode and operate the electric motor in the phase current reduction mode if:
• a rotational speed of the electric motor is less than a speed threshold;
• and
• the phase current is greater than a current threshold.
