An interior trim part for a vehicle, such as an air vent, includes a multi-component molded structure with a first region that can be electroplated and a second region that is transparent and guides light. The transparent region is formed from a high temperature copolyester with a heat deflection temperature above 80° C. and strong resistance to chemicals that may cause stress cracking, including hand creams. The material does not accept electroplating, which allows selective plating of only the first region during a two-component injection molding process. As a result, the transparent region remains free of metal while the adjacent region receives a chrome finish. The design supports efficient manufacturing and produces a durable interior component that combines a metallic decorative appearance with integrated illumination.
An interior trim part for a vehicle, wherein the interior trim part is configured as an air vent (1), and wherein the interior trim part comprises an decorative molded part that is formed completely or at least partially or in regions of a transparent material, wherein the transparent material of the molded part is configured to, at least as needed, decouple at least a portion of light coupled into the molded part or into the material of the molded part in a manner at least indirectly perceptible in the interior of the vehicle into the interior of the vehicle, wherein the transparent material of the molded part is formed, at least partially or in regions, of a copolyester material and of a high-temperature copolyester material.
