Technologies for determining tread wear of a tire of a vehicle include a telematics system having a one or more tire revolutions-per-minute (RPM) sensors and a telematics gateway. Each tire RPM sensor is coupled to a corresponding wheel of the vehicle and is configured to generate tire RPM data that is indicative of a number of rotations of the tire. The telematics gateway is configured to communicate with the tire RPM sensor to request the tire RPM data, determine a radius of the tire based on the tire RPM data, and determine an estimated amount of tire tread wear of the tire based on the determined radius of the tire. The RPM sensor may be embodied as, for example, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a tire rotation count sensor, and/or the other sensor capable for generating tire RPM data indicative of a number of rotations of the tire.
A telematics system for monitoring tire tread wear of a tire of a wheel of a vehicle, the telematics system comprising:
A method for monitoring tire tread wear of a tire of a wheel of a vehicle, the method comprising:
One or more non-transitory, computer-readable storage media comprising a plurality of instructions that in response to being executed cause a telematics gateway to:
