Printing device and control method for printing device

A printing device comprising:

• an attraction unit configured to attract a medium to a support unit;
• a head configured to eject liquid onto the medium;
• a carriage mounted with the head and configured to move in a main scanning direction with respect to the support unit;
• a control unit;
• a first state output unit configured to output a state of the attraction unit to the control unit;
• and
• a second state output unit configured to output a state of a part different from the attraction unit to the control unit, wherein
• the control unit controls the head and the carriage to execute print processing involving movement of the head by the carriage and the ejection of the liquid by the head onto the medium supported by the support unit, and
• when an area where the carriage moves when the print processing is executed is represented as a printing operation area and a position that is adjacent to the printing operation area in the main scanning direction and where the carriage stays on standby when the print processing is not executed is represented as a standby position,
• in a case of having detected an abnormality based on output from the first state output unit when the carriage is present in the printing operation area, the control unit restricts the carriage from being moved to the standby position, and
• in a case of having detected an abnormality based on output from the second state output unit and having not detected an abnormality based on output from the first state output unit when the carriage is present in the printing operation area, the control unit moves the carriage to the standby position.
