Power tool including a cold-start operation

A method for operating a powered hammer tool including a motor, the method comprising:

• determining, using an electronic controller of the powered hammer tool, a temperature of the powered hammer tool;
• determining, using the electronic controller, an operating state of the powered hammer tool based on the temperature and at least one operating parameter, the operating state indicating whether the powered hammer tool is in a loaded state or an unloaded state;
• driving, using the electronic controller, the motor at a first speed in response to the powered hammer tool being in the loaded state;
• and
• driving, using the electronic controller, the motor at a second speed in response to the powered hammer tool being in the unloaded state, wherein the first speed is greater than the second speed.

A breaker comprising:

• a housing;
• a motor within the housing;
• and
• an electronic controller electronically connected to the motor and configured to:
• initiate a first start-up operation of the motor by increasing a speed of the motor according to a first start-up profile, the first start-up profile defining a start-up rate of the motor for reaching an ending speed over a first time period,
• detect an overcurrent event during the first start-up operation, and
• in response to detecting the overcurrent event, initiate a second start-up operation of the motor according to a second start-up profile, the second start-up profile different than the first start-up profile.
