Abstract
A clamp for holding firearms by use of a mounting rail system, such as arca or picatinny, where the rail is held securely in the clamp by a sliding jaw tightened with a knob. The clamp is formed from an arm which itself is held securely within a vise that can be mounted to any suitable surface. The use of a cylindrical arm to form the clamp allows the clamp and firearm to be rotated in the vertical plane. Mounting the vise on a swivel allows for rotation in the horizontal plane. Together, this system provides a user with a stable, infinitely adjustable mounting mechanism that does not affect barrel harmonics.
Claims20
A support system for a firearm platform comprising:
- a vise having a tight configuration and a loose configuration;
- an arm carried by the vise;
- a sliding jaw carried by the arm, whereas the sliding jaw has a tight position and a loose position;
- and
- a mating surface defined by a proximal end of the arm and a mating edge of the sliding jaw adapted to receive an accessory rail.
A support system comprising:
- a sliding jaw carried by a clamp;
- a tightening member carried by the clamp and configured to move the sliding jaw between a tight position and a loose position;
- a first edge defined by the clamp and a second edge defined by the sliding jaw wherein the first edge and the second edge are adapted to receive an accessory rail;
- and
- wherein the sliding jaw includes a guide mechanism cooperatively associated with a receiving mechanism defined in the clamp which together align the sliding jaw to the clamp while allowing tolerance to compensate for a defect in the accessory rail as the sliding jaw moves from the loose position to the tight position.
A projectile platform support system comprising:
- a vise;
- an arm slidably carried by the vise
- a clamp carried by the arm and having a first edge and a second edge wherein the first edge is movable relative to the second edge between a loose position and a tight position and adapted to receive an accessory rail of a projectile platform;
- and,
- wherein the vise, arm and clamp are configured so that the vise does not directly contact the projectile platform when the accessory rail is secured in the clamp.
