The imaging device includes a main body with a cut-edge stop, which is located or formed on the main body and configured to be placed arranged or formed on the main body, for placing the main body against the workpiece having the cut edge to be imaged; and an imaging unit, which is located in or on the main body and configured to image the cut edge. The cut-edge stop forms a predetermined edge distance to the imaging unit along an optical imaging axis of the imaging unit. The predetermined edge distance causes a constant imaging distance of the imaging unit to the cut edge when the imaging device is placed on the workpiece.
