Abstract
The present invention relates generally to the field of electric riveters, and more particularly to a rivet setting tool including multiple operational modes for increased control over the fastening process. Operational modes of the rivet setting tool may include a preset mode to facilitate partially setting a rivet and a full set mode to facilitate fully setting the rivet. Advantageously, through the use of multiple operational modes, the electric riveter may provide for greater precision and adjustability when joining two or more pieces of material together.
Claims20
A rivet setting tool including two or more operational modes, comprising:
- a motor housed within a body;
- an actuator assembly configured to be driven via said motor, said actuator assembly including a drive shaft operatively coupled to a clamping assembly, said clamping assembly configured to apply a clamping force in response to activation of a trigger switch;
- a circuit board electrically coupled to said motor, said circuit board including processing circuitry for processing information corresponding to at least one of said motor and said actuator assembly;
- and
- a selector operatively coupled to said circuit board, said selector configured to facilitate selecting between two or more operational modes, wherein said processing circuitry is configured to control said motor according to at least one operational mode.
A rivet setting tool, comprising:
- a motor housed within a body;
- an actuator assembly configured to be driven via said motor, said actuator assembly including a drive shaft operatively coupled to a clamping assembly;
- a circuit board operatively coupled to said motor, said circuit board including processing circuitry configured to process information from one or more sensors and transmit control signals to said motor corresponding to said processed information;
- an input device operatively coupled to said circuit board, said input device configured to facilitate selecting a preset mode corresponding to an operation for partially setting a rivet;
- and
- wherein, in said preset mode, said actuator assembly is configured to clamp and pull a mandrel of a rivet in response to depression of a trigger switch, and wherein the operation for partially setting the rivet is continued regardless of said trigger switch being released.
A method for switching between operational modes of a rivet setting tool, comprising:
- receiving an input, via an input component, corresponding to at least one of a preset mode and a full set mode;
- driving an actuator assembly via a motor in response to detecting activation of a trigger switch;
- controlling, via processing circuitry, said motor, wherein, in said preset mode, said motor is configured such that said actuator assembly is movable a predetermined distance for partially setting a rivet, and wherein, in said full set mode, said motor is configured such that said actuator assembly is movable to a predetermined position for fully setting the rivet.
