Abstract
A power tool includes a motor, a mandrel movable along a mandrel axis, and a rotation collar that defines an opening that receives the mandrel. The rotation collar is rotatable about the mandrel axis. The power tool also includes a drive system coupled to the motor to cause the mandrel to move along the mandrel axis so that the mandrel causes the rotation collar to rotate about the mandrel axis.
Claims20
A power tool comprising:
- a motor;
- a mandrel movable along a mandrel axis;
- a rotation collar defining an opening that receives the mandrel, the rotation collar rotatable about the mandrel axis;
- and
- a drive system coupled to the motor to cause the mandrel to move along the mandrel axis so that the mandrel causes the rotation collar to rotate about the mandrel axis.
A head for an expansion tool, the head comprising:
- a housing defining an opening having an axis;
- and
- a rotation assembly including:
- an annular clutch positioned in the opening and including a drive member and a driven member unidirectionally rotated by the drive member about the axis,
- a shaft extending from a first end including a yoke to a second end including a coupling, the shaft including a non-linear groove, and the shaft being slidable through the annular clutch along the axis,
- a roller rotatably coupled to the shaft at the yoke,
- a mandrel head coupled to the second end of the shaft by a pin,
- a driver movable along the non-linear groove in response to movement of the shaft along the axis, the driver moving circumferentially relative to the axis as the driver moves along the non-linear groove to cause the drive member to rotate with the shaft, and
- a plurality of bearing elements positioned between the drive member and the driven member to cause unidirectional rotation of the driven member.
A power tool comprising:
- a first housing defining a battery receptacle;
- a second housing coupled to the first housing;
- a motor positioned in the first housing;
- a transmission positioned in the second housing and coupled between the motor and the second housing, the transmission including a drive shaft extending into the second housing;
- a cam coupled to the drive shaft so that the cam is rotated by operation of the motor;
- a frame positioned in the second housing and having a threaded end that extends out of the second housing;
- a rotation assembly supported by the frame and defining a drive axis, the rotation assembly including a mandrel that is reciprocated along the drive axis between a retracted position and an extended position, and a rotation collar that is intermittently rotated by reciprocation of the mandrel when the mandrel moves from the extended position toward the retracted position;
- and
- an expansion jaw including a collar configured to thread onto the threaded end of the second housing, and a plurality of jaw that are expanded as the mandrel moves from the retracted position to the extended position and that are contracted and rotated as the mandrel moves from the extended position to the retracted position.
