Abstract
Introduced here are rotors that can be placed inside of microplate wells that include liquid samples. Each rotor can be comprised of a ferromagnetic material. Accordingly, when a rotor is subjected to an external rotational magnetic field, the rotor spins and agitates the liquid sample inside the corresponding well. The spin speed may be adjusted by changing the rotation speed, direction, and/or orientation of the external rotational magnetic field. The rotor typically includes a central cavity within which a probe can be suspended during the biochemical test.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a plate that includes a plurality of wells, each of which has a diameter of no more than 20 millimeters (mm) and a depth of no more than 20 mm;
- and
- a rotor that has a hollow cylindrical form with an open top end and an open bottom end,
- wherein the open top and bottom ends are representative of opposing ends of a cavity defined through the rotor, and
- wherein the rotor comprises a ferromagnetic material, such that when the rotor is placed in a given well of the plurality of wells and subjected to a rotating magnetic field, the rotor spins and agitates a sample in the given well.
A system comprising:
- a plate that includes a plurality of wells, each of which has a diameter of no more than 20 millimeters (mm) and a depth of no more than 20 mm;
- and
- a rotor that comprises a ferromagnetic material and that has a cylindrical body with a cavity defined therethrough between a pair of open ends,
- wherein a height of the rotor is at least 5 mm and no more than 18.2 mm, such that the depth of each well is 10-50 percent larger than the height of the rotor, allowing the rotor to fit entirely inside each well, and
- wherein when the rotor is placed in a given well of the plurality of wells and subjected to a rotating magnetic field, the rotor spins and causes agitation throughout a liquid column formed by a sample in the given well.
