Provided are a bulky and small-steric-hindrance ligand and use thereof, belonging to the field of chemical catalytic technology. It is a ligand for a catalytic system used in the selective oligomerization of ethylene, which produces 1-octene as the main product and 1-hexene and 1-butene as by-products. The ligand is a ternary catalytic system composed of a central metal chromium, a ligand, and an aluminum-containing activator. During the in-situ preparation process, the ligand can regulate the molecular self-assembly in the process of formation of catalytically active species. This achieves selective oligomerization of ethylene that exclusively produces three useful comonomers: 1-octene as the main product and 1-hexene and 1-butene as byproducts. The distribution of the three monomers is adjustable without generating any olefin waste. For polyolefin enterprises, only one set of oligomerization equipment using this catalyst needs to be constructed to meet the demand for the three different copolymerization monomers.
A bulky and small-steric-hindrance ligand, wherein the bulky and small-steric-hindrance ligand is a monodentate bulky and small-steric-hindrance ligand constructed from dentate groups consisting of dentate elements without substituents, a monodentate bulky and small-steric-hindrance ligand constructed from dentate groups consisting of dentate elements containing branched substituents, a bidentate ligand composed of two dentate groups of P or N linked by a bridging group, or a bidentate ligand composed of two identical or different dentate groups containing one or more dentate elements selected from P, N, S, and O linked by a bridging group that does not change configuration due to σ-rotation, the bridging group has a double-bonded conjugated system;
