Abstract
The disclosure provides a method of extracting nicotinic components from substrates. The method includes contacting the substrate with a strong base in a solvent to form a mixture; heating the mixture at an elevated temperature to form a vapor containing the nicotinic component; and releasing the vapor containing the nicotinic component, forming a decontaminated substrate.
Claims29
A method for extracting a nicotinic component from a substrate comprising the nicotinic component at a first concentration, the method comprising:
- i) receiving the substrate;
- and
- ii) removing at least a portion of the nicotinic component from the substrate, wherein removing comprises:
- a) contacting the substrate with a solution of a strong base in a solvent in a vessel to form a mixture;
- b) heating the mixture at an elevated temperature to form a vapor containing the nicotinic component;
- and
- c) releasing the vapor containing the nicotinic component from the vessel, forming a decontaminated substrate having a second concentration of the residual nicotinic component, wherein the second concentration of the residual nicotinic component is lower than the first concentration of the residual nicotinic component.
