Abstract
A golf club head may include a forward portion including a striking face adapted to impact a golf ball, a first region located near a geometric center of the striking face, the first region including a first thickness, and a second region at least partially extending around the first region, the second region including a second thickness. The second thickness may be thicker than the first thickness. A width to height ratio of the striking face may be between about 1.0 and about 4.0. A golf club head may include a sole including a rear sole portion and a frontal sole portion.

A golf club head comprising:
- a forward portion comprising:
- a striking face adapted to impact a golf ball;
- a first region located near a geometric center of the striking face, the first region comprising a first thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from an exterior surface of the forward portion to an interior surface of the forward portion;
- and
- a second region at least partially extending around the first region, the second region comprising a second thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from the exterior surface of the forward portion to the interior surface of the forward portion, wherein the second thickness is thicker than the first thickness, wherein the second region further comprises:
- a second region width defined as a width measured between a first imaginary point vertically upward or downward from a heelward-most portion of the second region on an intersection of a loft plane and an x-z plane at a geometric face center and a second imaginary point vertically upward or downward from a toeward-most portion of the second region that is on the intersection of the loft plane and the x-z plane at the geometric face center;
- and
- a second region height defined as a height measured between a third imaginary point horizontally left or right from an upward-most portion of the second region that is on an intersection of the loft plane and a y-z plane at the geometric face center and a fourth imaginary point horizontally left or right from a lower-most portion of second region that is on the intersection of the loft plane and the y-z plane at the geometric face center, wherein a width to height ratio is defined as the second region width divided by the second region height, wherein the width to height ratio is between about 1.0 and about 4.0;
- a crown forming an upper portion of the golf club head, extending rearward from the forward portion;
- and
- a sole forming a lower portion of the golf club head, wherein the sole comprises:
- a rear sole portion forming an aft portion of the sole;
- and
- a frontal sole portion forming a frontal portion of the sole.
A golf club head comprising:
- a golf club head volume between about 100 cubic centimeters and about 350 cubic centimeters;
- a loft between about 12 degrees and about 30 degrees;
- a forward portion comprising:
- a frontal opening defined by a frontal opening perimeter;
- a striking face insert to fit into the frontal opening, wherein a part of the forward portion and the striking face insert define a striking face adapted to impact a golf ball;
- a first region located near a geometric center of the striking face, the first region comprising a first thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from an exterior surface of the forward portion to an interior surface of the forward portion;
- and
- a second region at least partially extending around the first region, the second region comprising a second thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from the exterior surface of the forward portion to the interior surface of the forward portion, wherein the second thickness is thicker than the first thickness;
- a crown forming an upper portion of the golf club head, extending rearward from the forward portion;
- and
- a sole forming a lower portion of the golf club head, wherein the sole comprises:
- a rear sole portion forming an aft portion of the sole;
- and
- a frontal sole portion forming a frontal portion of the sole;
- wherein the frontal opening perimeter extends onto at least part of the frontal sole portion, wherein the striking face insert comprises a sole portion forming at least part of the frontal sole portion, and wherein the frontal sole portion comprises a first frontal sole portion distance measured from a point on an imaginary ground plane perpendicular from a leading edge of the golf club head at address and another point on the imaginary ground plane perpendicular from a thickest portion of the second region rearward of the leading edge.
A golf club head comprising:
- a golf club head volume between about 100 cubic centimeters and about 350 cubic centimeters;
- a forward portion comprising:
- a striking face adapted to impact a golf ball;
- a first region located near a geometric center of the striking face, the first region comprising a first thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from an exterior surface of the forward portion to an interior surface of the forward portion;
- and
- a second region at least partially extending around the first region, the second region comprising a second thickness measured substantially perpendicularly from the exterior surface of the forward portion to the interior surface of the forward portion, wherein the second thickness is thicker than the first thickness by at least about 15%;
- a crown forming an upper portion of the golf club head, extending rearward from the forward portion;
- and
- a sole forming a lower portion of the golf club head, wherein the sole comprises:
- a rear sole portion forming an aft portion of the sole;
- and
- a frontal sole portion forming a frontal portion of the sole.
