Abstract
The invention relates to a fire suppression device and method, in particular a device for delivering free-flowing granular fire suppressant media to a fire or potential fire emergency, in particular one caused by Li-ion battery failure, comprising a media reservoir adapted to supply an auger housed in a tubular barrel and mechanism for rotating the auger so as to deliver the fire suppressant media to the fire or potential fire emergency, and a method of using same to combat a fire or potential fire emergency by suppressing and/or extinguishing the fire.
Claims20
A fire suppressant device comprising a hollow tubular member fitted with an auger, said tubular member having a first opening at one end for supplying fire suppressant media to the auger, and a second opening at the opposite end for delivering the fire suppressant media, said auger being provided with an actuator for rotating said auger in order to move the fire suppressant media from the first to the second opening.
A fire suppressant device comprising:
- a hollow tube with an electric drive motor attached at one end and an outlet at the opposing end;
- a shaftless auger attached to the electric drive motor that extends inside the hollow tube towards the outlet at the opposing end;
- and
- a port in the hollow tube through which fire suppressant media is delivered to the auger,
- wherein switching on the electric drive motor turns the shaftless auger thereby transporting the media out of the outlet end for fire suppression.
A device for delivering granular fire suppressant media to a fire emergency site comprising a hollow tube fitted with an auger extending therein having a shank portion and a spiral portion, said hollow tube having a first opening at one end for delivering said granular fire suppressing media to a fire emergency site and second opening proximal to the other end for inputting fire suppressant media, wherein said shank portion of said auger within the hollow tube is positioned after said second opening and extends through said other end of the hollow tube, and wherein rotation of said auger delivers fire suppressant media to the fire emergency site.
