Abstract
A handheld power tool has grip removably attachable to a tool body that encloses a motor. The grip has a grasp-activated power switch. The power tool may have a removable battery attachable to the tool body. A LED band circumvolves either the tool body or the battery. The LED band is powered on and off in response to the grasp-activated power switch and provides a visual indicator of the status of the motor. When the LED band circumvolves the tool body, it is positioned opposite the grip so as to be continuously visible while using the power tool.
Claims20
A handheld power tool, comprising:
- a tool body enclosing a motor;
- a grip removably attachable to the tool body, the grip having a grasp-activated switch;
- a battery removably attachable to the tool body;
- and
- an illuminating filament at least partially circumvolving one of the tool body or the battery;
- wherein, in response to a manual grasping force applied to the grip, the grasp-activated switch electrically couples the battery to the motor and to the illuminating filament.

A handheld power tool, comprising:
- a tool body enclosing a motor, the tool body having a distal end, a proximal end, a first pin and a second pin, the first pin and the second pin extending from an outer surface of the tool body;
- a grasp-activated power switch having an inner body removably attachable to the distal end of the tool body, and an outer conductive shell substantially covering the inner body, the inner body having a working end, a switch end, and an open-ended channel extending between the working end and the switch end, the channel configured to receive the distal end of the tool body and defining an inner surface electrically coupled to an outer surface of the switch body, wherein the inner surface is electrically separated from the first pin and the second pin;
- a battery removably attachable to the proximal end of the tool body;
- and
- an illuminating filament at least partially circumvolving one of the tool body or the battery;
- wherein a manual grasping force applied to the grasp-activated power switch completes an electrical connection between the first pin and the second pin thereby energizing the motor and powering the illuminating filament.
