A system for detecting, measuring, and removing gas from a medical fluid pathway includes a fluid delivery path that conveys therapeutic liquid from a source toward a patient and an Active Air Management (AAM) subassembly. The AAM subassembly includes a fluid chamber that receives the therapeutic liquid and entrained gas, and a pneumatic chamber separated from the fluid chamber by a gas-selective membrane that permits gas transfer while retaining liquid. A pressure controller is fluidly coupled to the pneumatic chamber and configured to impose a controlled negative pressure differential to extract gas across the membrane. A valve selectively isolates the pneumatic chamber to create a sealed measurement volume, and a pressure sensor measures pressure changes within the sealed volume. A controller determines a quantity of gas based on the measured pressure change and, when the change meets or exceeds a threshold, commands the pressure controller to re-establish or adjust the negative pressure differential to continue gas removal.
