System and method for delivery of therapeutic agents and treatment of fecal impaction

Abstract

Systems and methods for treating fecal impaction are described. A fecal impaction treatment system includes a distal portion configured to be positioned adjacent to an anus of a patient, a fluid delivery pathway including a disimpaction fluid outlet configured to deliver disimpaction fluid toward fecal material, and a waste pathway including a waste inlet configured to receive the disimpaction fluid and fecal material affected by the disimpaction fluid. A therapeutic-agent source may selectively supply a therapeutic agent so that the disimpaction fluid delivered through the disimpaction fluid outlet includes the therapeutic agent. A macerator may be positioned along the waste pathway to reduce a size of fecal material transported through the waste pathway. A waste reservoir may receive the disimpaction fluid and fecal material from the waste pathway.
