Abstract

A method and a device for cleaning and sterilizing contact lens using electrochemistry. The method includes: pouring normal saline into care chambers and an auxiliary chamber, a cation exchange membrane being provided between the care chamber, first electrodes and the auxiliary chambers and second electrodes being provided inside the care chambers, third electrodes being provided inside the auxiliary chamber, and contact lenses being provided inside the care chambers; connecting the first electrodes serving as a cathode and the third electrodes serving as an anode to a power supply; and then disconnecting the power supply, and connecting the power supply to the first electrodes and the second electrodes and, under the action of an electric field force, the degraded denatured proteins move towards the electrode carrying opposite charges to those of themselves.

A method for cleaning and sterilizing contact lens using electrochemistry, characterized by comprising the following steps:

S1:
pouring a chloride ion-containing solution into a care chamber and an auxiliary chamber, which are interconnected, wherein a cation exchange membrane is placed between the care chamber and the auxiliary chamber, the care chamber is equipped with at least a first electrode and a second electrode, while the auxiliary chamber is equipped with a third electrode, the contact lens is placed in the chloride ion-containing solution within the care chamber;
S2:
connecting the first electrode and the third electrode to a power supply, wherein the first electrode serves as a cathode, the third electrode serves as an anode, a reduction reaction occurs at the first electrode, and the first electrode electrolyzes H2O in the chloride ion-containing solution in the care chamber to produce H2 and OH−;
an oxidation reaction occurs at the third electrode, and the third electrode electrolyzes Cl− in the chloride ion-containing solution in the auxiliary chamber to produce Cl2, which dissolves in the solution to form HCl and HClO, and the cation exchange membrane can block Cl− and ClO− in the auxiliary chamber from entering the care chamber;
S3:
when the pH in the care chamber reaches 8-12, disconnecting the power to the first and third electrodes and connecting the first and second electrodes to the power source, with one serving as the anode and the other as the cathode, the cathode electrolyzes H2O in the solution to produce H2 and OH−, while the anode electrolyzes Cl− into Cl2, which dissolves to form Cl− and ClO−, the ClO− sterilizes the contact lens and degrades denatured proteins on it, the degraded proteins move toward the oppositely charged electrode under the electric field formed between the anode and cathode, achieving sterilization and protein removal.
