Asparaginase-based cancer therapy

Abstract

The present invention relates to an improved preparation and delivery of asparaginase for use in medicine, e.g. in human and veterinary medicine. Aspects of the present invention may relate to an aqueous asparaginase preparation comprising monomeric asparaginase in urea, wherein the urea is in a concentration of 4 mol/L to 6 mol/L. The asparaginase may be an asparaginase produced in a bacterial cell (e.g., Escherichia coli or Dickeya dadantii). The urea is in a concentration of 5 mol/L. The asparaginase may be a recombinant asparaginase. Aspects of the present invention may relate to a method for the treatment of cancer comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of monomeric asparaginase in a chaotropic agent to a subject in need thereof.
