A method for preventing or treating a metabolic disease in a subject, comprising:
- upregulating or overexpressing at least one polypeptide selected from the group consisting of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1/SLC25A7), PPARG coactivator 1 alpha (PPARGC1A/PCG1A), PR/SET domain 16 (PRDM16), FFAR1/GPR40, FFAR4/GPR120, FOXO1, GLUT1, GLUT2, GLUT3, GLUT4, CHREBP, CD36, CTP1B, AIFM2/FSP1, GSK, IRS1, DGAT1, DGAT2, uridine phosphorylase (UPP1), CKB, and ACACA or as found in Table 2, or downregulating ACACB or NRIP1, in an adipocyte of the subject, thereby preventing or treating a metabolic disease.
A method for preventing or treating a metabolic disease or a symptom of aging in a subject, comprising:
- introducing to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of engineered adipocytes, engineered adipose stem cells, or engineered adipose organoids, wherein the engineered adipocytes, engineered adipose stem cells, or engineered adipose organoids upregulate or overexpress at least one polypeptide selected from the group consisting of Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1/SLC25A7), PPARG coactivator 1 alpha (PPARGC1A/PCG1A), PR/SET domain 16 (PRDM16), FFAR1/GPR40, FFAR4/GPR120, FOXO1, GLUT1, GLUT2, GLUT3, GLUT4, CHREBP, CD36, CTP1B, AIFM2/FSP1, GSK, IRS1, DGAT1, DGAT2, UPP1, CKB, and ACACA or as found in Table 2, or downregulate expression of ACACB or NRIP1.
A method of treating or preventing cancer in an individual, the method comprising introducing into an individual one or more engineered adipocytes or adipose stem cells in proximity to cancer cells, wherein the one or more engineered adipocytes or adipose stem cells consume a metabolite preferentially consumed by the cancer cells compared to non-cancer cells in the individual, thereby inhibiting growth of the cancer cells.
