Abstract
The present invention is directed to a lamellar wash composition having a surfactant system with total anionic that has less than 40% by weight isethionate, and an amphoteric, zwitterionic or both. The composition is stable and has no or reduced amounts of structurant derived from palm kernel oil. The composition surprisingly provides excellent sensory and lathering characteristics and remains stable in lamellar phase.
Claims14
A lamellar wash composition comprising:
- a) anionic surfactant comprising less than 40% by weight isethionate;
- b) amphoteric surfactant, zwitterionic surfactant or both;
- c) 0 to 5% by weight nonionic surfactant;
- d) lamellar structurant;
- and
- e) water,
- wherein:
- i) the composition has a viscosity of at least 30,000 mPa-s;
- ii) the composition a pH of at least 5;
- iii) the composition comprises no more than 3% by weight of a sulfate comprising surfactant;
- iv) at least 60% by weight of the amphoteric surfactant and/or zwitterionic surfactant each are independently free of an amidoalkyl bridge;
- v) amphoteric surfactant is at least 80% by weight amine oxide;
- vi) at least 60% by weight of the zwitterionic surfactant in the wash composition has a hydrophilic portion that is —N+—(R)2—(C(R1)2)x—COO— or —N+—(R)2—(C(R2)2)y—SO3— where each R is independently H or a C1-3 alkyl;
- each R1 is independently H or a C1-3 alkyl;
- x is an integer from 1 to 3;
- each R2 is independently H, OH or a C1-4 alkyl and y is an integer from 1-6;
- and
- vii) the lamellar structurant comprises a) from 0 to 2% by weight of a C6 to C14 carboxylic acid or alcohol or amide derivative thereof or b) from 0 to 2.85% by weight of a C16-C20 lactylate or both and with the proviso that a and b cannot simultaneously be 0 and if only a or b is present, a is present at least at 0.4% by weight and b is present at least at 0.5% by weight.
