Abstract
Formulations with feruloyl glycerides yield novel enhancements to improve SPF of sunscreens, offer enhanced protection of active ingredients and therapeutic agents from UV light and serve as an antioxidant. These agents have the advantage of being synthesized from natural materials, while providing a value-added use for vegetable oils. They are readily applied to sunscreen, lotion, haircare, suncare, personal care, pharmaceutical and industrial formulations.

A composition, comprising:
- a) at least one sunscreen active agent;
- and
- b) a compound of formula I:
- wherein R1 is OCH3 or H, and
- wherein R2 and R3 are each independently selected from OH and a C2-C24 fatty acid moiety.

A topical composition, comprising:
- a compound of formula I:
- wherein R1 is OCH3 or H, and
- wherein R2 and R3 are each independently selected from OH and a C2-C24 fatty acid moiety and the calculated active skin gap (AKG) is greater than 8 and Mvol is greater than 500 indicating that the molecule does not penetrate the skin.
