Transparent and Mild Surfactant Wash Composition

A wash composition comprising:

• a) from 4 to 18% by weight total surfactant, the surfactant comprising anionic surfactant, and amphoteric surfactant wherein 50 to 90% by weight of total surfactant in the wash composition is amphoteric surfactant;
• b) preservative;
• c) from 0.1 to 2% by weight of an activator of a peroxisome proliferator activated receptor based on total weight of the wash composition;
• d) alcohol;
• and
• e) water,
• wherein the composition:
• i) is transparent;
• ii) has a pH from 5.65 to 8.5;
• and
• iii) comprises less than 0.065%, and preferably, less than 0.062%, and most preferably, less than 0.06%, by weight ethylene glycol dilaurate based on total weight of the wash composition,
• the amphoteric surfactant comprises 25% or less by weight hydrophobic portion derived from triglyceride based on total weight of hydrophobic portion present on the amphoteric surfactant and with the proviso that if the anionic surfactant comprises acyl isethionate, total weight of acyl isethionate included does not exceed 3.6% by weight of the total weight of the wash composition.
