Abstract
A positioning system for a surgical procedure is provided. The positioning system may include a surgery table, a spar base, and a spar extending from the spar base to support at least one leg of a patient. The spar base may be positioned beneath a platform of the surgery table and may translate a distance along the surgery table.
Claims20
A surgical method, comprising:
- supporting at least a portion of a leg of a patient on a foot support;
- placing a drape over a foot support module coupled to a distal end of a spar extending from a surgery table, the spar comprising a proximal end and an opposing distal end, the proximal end of the spar coupled to the surgery table, the drape defining a sterile space above the drape and a working space below the drape;
- coupling the foot support to the foot support module, with the drape in between the foot support and the foot support module, the foot support comprised within the sterile space and the foot support module comprised within the working space;
- generating a magnetic field in the sterile space, the magnetic field generated by one or more magnets of the foot support, and generating comprising moving the one or more magnets proximal to a mu metal pathway comprised within the foot support and extending the magnetic field through the mu metal pathway to a magnetic field terminus;
- placing the magnetic field terminus in proximity to a magnetic sensor comprised within the foot support module, and extending the magnetic field across the drape from the sterile space to the working space;
- and
- actuating the magnetic sensor in the working space via the magnetic field extending from the magnetic field terminus to the magnetic sensor.

A system, comprising:
- a surgery table comprising a distal end, a proximal end opposing the distal end, and a platform configured to support at least a portion of the patient;
- a spar base coupled to the surgery table and positioned beneath the platform;
- a spar comprising a distal end and a proximal end opposing the distal end, the proximal end of the spar coupled to and extending from the spar base and configured to support a leg of the patient;
- a foot support coupled to and disposed at the distal end of the spar, the foot support comprising a mu metal pathway and a magnetic field terminus comprising mu metal, the foot support comprising one or more magnets opposite the magnetic field terminus;
- a foot support module coupled to a distal end of the spar, the foot support module comprising a magnetic sensor;
- and
- a drape configured to be placed over the foot support module, the drape defining a sterile space above the drape and a working space below the drape, the foot support configured to be coupled to the foot support module with the drape in between the foot support and the foot support module, the foot support comprised within the sterile space and the foot support module comprised within the working space,
- wherein:
- the one or more magnets are configured to generate a magnetic field in the sterile space, the one or more magnets further configured to selectively move proximal to the mu metal pathway comprised within the foot support and extend the magnetic field through the mu metal pathway to the magnetic field terminus,
- the magnetic field terminus is configured to be moved proximate to the magnetic sensor comprised within the foot support module, and extend the magnetic field across the drape from the sterile space to the working space, and
- the magnetic sensor is configured to be actuated in the working space via the magnetic field extending from the magnetic field terminus to the magnetic sensor.
