A prosthetic heart valve includes a radially collapsible and expandable frame having an inflow end, an outflow end, and a central longitudinal axis, and a plurality of leaflets coupled to the frame. Each leaflet includes a free edge portion configured to abut adjacent leaflet free edge portions to prevent fluid flow in a closed position. Opposing upper edge portions of each leaflet are secured to respective commissure support portions of the frame. The leaflet includes a truncated base and first and second side edge portions extending diagonally from opposing ends of the base to the respective upper edge portions. Each side edge portion is coupled along an entire length of a corresponding frame portion extending from adjacent the inflow end to a commissure support portion. The side edge portions diverge from one another in a direction from the leaflet base toward the free edge portion.
