Abstract
A container includes a base with walls extending therefrom defining free edges. A lip is formed in the free edges and includes a housing having channels and an open portion. A handle is disposed in the housing and selectively movable between a stored position and an extended position. The handle includes a gripping portion and arm portions slidably disposed within the channels. In the stored position, the gripping portion is disposed within the open portion such that the handle telescopes into the lip. In the extended position, the gripping portion is disposed adjacent to or spaced apart from the open portion.

A container, comprising:
- a base with a first longitudinal wall, a second longitudinal wall, a first end wall, and a second end wall extending therefrom, each wall defining a free edge opposite the base;
- a lip formed in the free edge, the lip including a housing for a handle, the housing including:
- enclosed channels formed along the first longitudinal wall and the second longitudinal wall;
- and
- an open portion formed along the first end wall and disposed on an underside of the lip adjacent to the channels;
- a handle disposed in the housing and selectively movable between a stored position and an extended position, the handle including:
- a gripping portion;
- and
- arm portions extending from the gripping portion and being slidably disposed within the channels;
- wherein in the stored position, the gripping portion is disposed within the open portion, and in the extended position, the gripping portion is disposed adjacent to or spaced apart from the open portion.
A method of operating a handle for a container, the method comprising:
- providing a container having a base with walls extending therefrom defining free edges, and a lip formed in the free edges, the lip including a housing having channels and an open portion;
- providing a handle having a gripping portion and arm portions extending from the gripping portion, the arm portions being slidably disposed within the channels;
- moving the handle from a stored position where the gripping portion is disposed within the open portion to an extended position where the gripping portion is disposed adjacent to or spaced apart from the open portion by urging the gripping portion out of the open portion and sliding the arm portions through the channels.
A method of assembling a container, the method comprising:
- providing a base with a first longitudinal wall, a second longitudinal wall, a first end wall, and a second end wall extending therefrom, each wall defining a free edge opposite the base;
- forming a lip in the free edge, the lip including a housing having channels formed along the first longitudinal wall and the second longitudinal wall and an open portion formed along the first end wall;
- forming a handle having a gripping portion and arm portions extending from the gripping portion;
- inserting the arm portions into the channels such that the handle is slidably disposed within the housing and selectively movable between a stored position and an extended position.
