A chinbar attachment assembly dissipation matrix that connects a helmet chinbar to a helmet body. The dissipation matrix may include at least two arms configured in a labyrinth of channels and branches that elastically deform when the helmet is impacted by an external force to absorb and dissipate the kinetic energy of the impact force. The labyrinth of channels and branches include a main branch and a plurality of smaller branches stemming from the main branch. The main branch may be in the shape of an elongated “C” and the smaller branches may be in the shape of a “J”, a reverse “J”, a “T”, a “C”, or may be various other shapes. Generally, the dissipation matrix is housed inside the helmet body and the labyrinth of channels and branches may be configured to be positioned around any ventilation cut-outs that may be in the helmet body. The dissipation matrix is typically connected to the chinbar at about three points of connection in one embodiment, but may be connected by more or less points of connection in other embodiments.
